• The department of ophthalmology at AIIMS, Mangalagiri is driven by the mission to deliver quality eye care at an affordable cost.
• Prescription of glasses for refractive errors, screening for glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration is being done routinely. We are equipped to diagnose and treat common diseases like keratitis, conjunctivitis, dry eyes, blepharitis, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears etc. We have high quality equipments like corneal topography, specular microscope, optical biometer. non-contact and contact tonometers, pachymeter, digital fundus camera, slitlamps, keratometers, optical coherence tomography, ultrasound B scan, Nd:YAG lasers both for the diseases of the anterior segment (peripheral iridotomy, selective laser trabeculoplasty, peripheral iridoplasty and laser capsulotomy) and retina (barrage lasers for retinal breaks, panretinal photocoagulation for diabetic retinopathy, grid/ focal laser photocoagulation for diabetic macular edema, laser hyalidotomy, focal lasers for retino-choroidal diseases).
• We are performing major and minor ophthalmic surgeries like retinal surgeries including retinal detachment, vitreous haemorrhage, macular hole and ERM surgeries, cataract (SICS and phacoemulsification) , pterygium excision, and intravitreal anti-VEGF/ steroid injections.

Highlights of the Department:

• 20/06/2019: A health talk on ‘Age-related eye problems’ at the SBI pensioner’s association, Satyanarayanapuram branch, Vijaywada
• 21/09/2019: Health check-up and refractory error screening camp at Nambur sub-centre.
• 24/01/2020: Poster presentation on Diabetic retinopathy on the occasion of Foundation day, AIIMS, Mangalagiri
• 11-14/03/2020: Patient awareness activities (Poster presentations, awareness talk, glaucoma screening) as a part of the World glaucoma week celebrations at AIIMS, Mangalagiri
• 5/03/2020: Talk on Women’s empowerment as a part of the International Women’s Day at All India Radio, Vijaywada
• 17/09/2020- Poster presentation as a part of World Patient safety day celebrations
• September 2021: Eye donation fornight observed at AIIMS, Mangalagiri(Patient awareness activities conducted: health talk, poster display, CME, awareness talk on AIR/DD
