AIIMS first batch students won the third prize in a quiz competition in Physiology at Tirupati. Suprabha Sinha, Raghavi N Malepati and Yashaswi Prabhu S comprised of the team which made us proud. This was the team which had all of the members who were first year among the 29 teams which competed for the coveted prize.

Department of Physiology in AIIMS, Mangalagiri innovates teaching of the subject by various hands-on activities by the students.

The impetus given by Dr Amudharaj (Associate Dean of Student Affairs) and his team of physiologists in the department is worth mentioning in this context.

Swachhta Pakhwada

Swachhta Pledge was taken by the students and the programme was supported by a committee of faculty and staff

More activities are planned for the days to come by the committee co-ordinating the programme.

A new initiative in small group teaching in biochemistry

Department of biochemistry AIIMS Mangalagiri introduced fish bowl method of teaching in its curriculum. This method of learning is ideal for learning any topic in depth

Students are divided into groups and given topics a week prior to the session. A moderator is allotted for each group to conduct the fishbowl

Republic Day 2019

First Batch MBBS students of AIIMS Mangalagiri celebrated the country's 70th republic day with a joyous flash mob at the airport at Gannavaram, Vijayawada. The occasion was marked by felicitations by the Airport Director as well as the Dean of AIIMS Mangalagiri. The flash mob included a splendid performance by children who brought in the colours of India through classical dance. (Audio removed because of copyright issues)


 

The students appreciated the gesture of Airport Director in inviting them to be part of the celebration in one of the major focal points of upcoming capital of Andhra Pradesh. AIIMS Mangalagiri faculty/administrators/staff attended this function as well as the one organised by Govt. Siddhartha Medical College at Gunadala also.

World AIDS Day 2018

On World AIDS Day, the Department of Community & Family Medicine (CFM), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, under the guidance of Dr. Rakesh Kakkar, Professor and Head, organized a rally at Gandalayapeta, in Mangalagiri in which the Medical Students of AIIMS Mangalagiri and the faculty of Dept. of CFM participated. The rally went around the streets spreading the health awareness with key health messages regarding spread and prevention of HIV/AIDS. This was followed by Role plays by the Medical students in two groups focusing on the theme of World AIDS Day 2018 “Know your status”.


 

The role plays were performed on the streets of Gandayapeta and at the Government Primary School for Scheduled Castes and Tribes respectively. The audience included the people in the local community and the Primary School children and their parents respectively. Also this was followed by acapella performed by the students at the school. The events aimed to break barriers to HIV testing and reduce stigma and discrimination of HIV. We thank the local community and specially, Mr.Vara Kumar, Headmaster of Govt. Primary school for welcoming the team and making the programme, a grand success. Medical Students, Aditya and Soumika, were congratulated by the headmaster and given prizes for effectively co-ordinating the role plays.

Cultural Evening in AIIMS

A cultural evening by the first batch of MBBS in AIIMS was planned and executed in a joyous fashion with involvement of all administrative and academic leaders. The programme had the blessing of both the Directors of Medical Education of Andhra Pradesh who were instrumental in bringing AIIMS to Mangalagiri.


 

The event was rehearsed by the students from various parts of the country and was supervised by the faculty committee and included music, dance, mimicry, games and a fashion show. Faculty also had a surprise item in store for the students.

We thank Dr.K Babji, DME (Admn.), AP and our nodal officer Dr.R Sasank, DME (Acad.) and Principal of Govt.Siddhartha Medical College for their gracious presence to bless our students.

Dr T S Ravikumar, our President, was fully supportive for the culturals during the rehearsal.

Be friendly but NOT "B" Friendly

The first health protection camp of the fraternity of AIIMS Mangalagiri got underway with full participation of students and faculty along with the staff of the institute on 31-10-2018.

Deputy Director Administration, Dean, Associate Dean, Faculty and staff of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry departments actively took part in the programme.

The subsequent sessions at 1 month and 6 months will be conducted for full immunization of the whole family of AIIMS.

Jigsaw Tutorials Launch

Students are given prior individual topics to prepare. They are first segregated into expert groups with the same topic where they refurbish their knowledge about a single topic in depth. They are then reorganised into groups where in each group member will present his own topic .

What the moderators observed... ignited interests to gain indepth knowledge... increased communication skills... tested leadership qualities ... allowed for exchange of ideas ... and

.... allowed equal participation and gave everyone a chance to put their point ahead

Urban Camp for Happy and Healthy Communities

First urban health check up camp with theme of life style modification at Gannavaram SLV Anjani Heights filled the missing link between the residents and our students through detailed history as per WHO criteria steps questionnaire for NCDs, BP, height, weight, BMI, waist and hip circumference, urine examination for 10 parameters, blood glucose estimation followed by consultation and counselling on lifestyle modifications.

AHA-CPR Training for Medicos and Parents

AIIMS, Mangalagiri conducted the first AHA accredited Family & Friends CPR course in India in association with SVIMS, AP for the students and parents using 50 mannequins simultaneously.
