The Department of Anesthesiology conducted a CME & Hands-on Workshop on Airway Management.

Objectives:

Airway skills form an integral part in all resuscitative protocols. In the context of an ongoing pandemic, these skills have become a necessity for all doctors. The aim of this program was to train all residents (JRs & SRs) and faculty across all the departments in AIIMS, Mangalagiri on the fundamentals of airway management.

The program included the following sessions:

1. The two lectures were aimed at imparting the basic knowledge on airway anatomy and the steps involved in airway management.
2. Airway skills like bag-mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation with macintosh blade and video laryngoscope, supraglottic airway device insertion, video bronchoscopy and bronchoscopy assisted endotracheal intubation were demonstrated on manikins.
3. After the lectures and demonstration, the participants were allowed to perform these skills on the manikins.
4. Individual assessment of parameters like positioning, duration of intubation, force on incisors, glottic view & tube position was done on difficult airway simulator for each participant.
The department is looking forward to organise such events more frequently and expanding the horizon of participation to other medical colleges and hospitals in the future.
