MEDICAL ONCOLOGY

The Department of Medical Oncology was established in October 2023, after the joining of its first faculty. The Department of Medical Oncology commenced the OPD services since 01-11-2023 and dedicated to providing tertiary level diagnostic, therapeutic & preventive care to oncology patients through OPD, IPD, Day Care & special clinics.

Vision:

To establish a center of excellence in oncology, for evidence-based, state-of-art, individualized care for all cancers as well as a center for advanced teaching, training, and research in oncology.

Mission statement:

  1. To provide comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, tertiary care to patients attending AIIMS Mangalagiri. This comprises patient-oriented curative, palliative, preventive & supportive care services. Department of Medical Oncology, in collaboration with the departments of Radiation and Surgical Oncology, initiated the Multi-disciplinary Tumor Board meetings with the aim of improving the standard of patient care and academics for residents. Treatment decisions for all cancer patients are made through discussion & consensus of experts from all the concerned specialties.
  2. To collaborate with the national and international centers of excellence for conducting advanced scientific research in oncology with special focus on developing novel diagnostic tests, prognostic markers & innovative treatment protocols.

 

Services available in the department:

OPD Services:

The Outpatient services of the department were started on 01/11/2023. The department gives quality care and caters to the healthcare of patients in terms of Preventive Oncology, Clinical evaluation of suspected cancers, guidance for relevant diagnostic investigations, and treatment consultation for all types of cancers.

Oncology Day Care Facility: Includes dedicated beds for the administration of daycare chemotherapy & supportive treatment.

IPD Services:

The In-patient services of the department were started on 06/11/2023. Patients receive comprehensive care by doctors, nursing team and other health care staff. The department is actively involved in the training of nursing officers with respect to the Safe-handling of the chemotherapy drugs, Preparation and mixing, Administering the drugs with utmost care as well as Dietary Counseling, Pharmacotherapy and other supportive care measures.
