Scope of Endocrinology services:

           Endocrinology is a subspeciality of Internal Medicine which deals with hormonal disorders. Hormones are chemical products produced and secreted in tiny quantities by ductless glands (eg- Pituitary, Parathyroid, thyroid, adrenal, pancreas, testes and ovaries) directly into the blood stream that directly influence body function in various ways. These hormones could be increased or decreased in various conditions that Endocrinologists assess and treat such as:

  • Diabetes mellitus and its complications
  • Hypoglycemic disorders associated with low glucose in blood
  • Thyroid disorders Eg- Graves` disease, goiter, hypothyroidism
  • Pituitary pathology eg- Acromegaly, prolactinoma, diabetes insipidus, adenomas
  • Disorders of Calcium and Mineral metabolism eg- Hyper and hypoparathyroidism,

Vitamin D   deficiency and Osteoporosis.

  • Male gonadal disorders eg- hypogonadism
  • Female gonadal disorders eg Polycystic ovarian syndrome, hypogonadism and

Menopause

  • Diseases of the Adrenal gland like Addison`s disease and Cushing`s disease
  • Pediatric Endocrinology dealing with Short stature, delayed and precocious puberty and

disorders of sexual differentiation

Department provides outpatient services and consultation to other departments.
